DBPR accelerates licensing for appraisers, approves FSU pilot program
ORLANDO, Fla. – March 9, 2009 – College graduates hoping to become real estate appraisers may be able to go through an accelerated licensing process under a new initiative, which seeks to eliminate submission of college transcripts as part of the application. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s (DBPR) Division of Real Estate recently completed a pilot program with Florida State University to pre-certify the educational requirement for graduates based on university degree requirements.

Certified residential or certified general appraiser applicants are required to send in college transcripts, which have to be evaluated to ensure that federal education pre-license education standards are met. This results in prolonged processing time, according to DBPR. By working with universities and colleges, the Division of Real Estate hopes to approve educational curriculum and process applications without transcripts based on graduation from an approved program.

The Real Estate Division has evaluated and approved the curriculum and educational program at Florida State University and is currently beginning the evaluation process with the University of Florida. Officials are going to offer this same program review to all universities and colleges that have full real estate degrees, according to DBPR.

DBPR’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The department licenses more than one million businesses and professionals ranging from real estate agents, veterinarians, and accountants to contractors and cosmetologists.
